It’s Bouclème’s fifth birthday this month, so amongst the celebrations, I thought I’d share five things I love about the brand. Not only is Bouclème a sustainable brand that gives back to charities (and the environment), they also create quality products, made from quality ingredients.
Here are five reasons why I love Bouclème:
1. Helped Me Begin My Curly Hair Journey
When I first began following the curly girl method, Bouclème was the first natural hair care brand I purchased products from. I started with the Curl Cream, Curl Cleanser and Curl Conditioner. But after speaking with the brand, I was recommended the Curl Defining Gel, and Hydrating Hair Cleanser (as it foams up and is better for my fine, loose curls). I’d never used a gel on my hair before, so I didn’t know how my hair would react. But, Bouclème’s Curl Defining Gel improved my curl definition and spurred me to learn more about my hair and research different kinds of products.
2. Natural Ingredients
Bouclème’s products don’t contain any nasties within their ingredients. That’s right: No sulphates, no silicones, no parabens, no drying alcohols - the list goes on! When products contain harsh ingredients like the above, it can suffocate and dry out our curls. However, using products with natural ingredients helps to nourish hair back to health, and encourage the best curl definition of your life!
3. Recyclable and Biodegradable
All of the packaging and ingredients Bouclème uses are either recyclable or biodegradable. From biopolymer product bottles made from sugarcane to recyclable cardboard parcel boxes filled with water-dissolvable, biodegradable packaging potatoes, the brand really is doing its bit for the environment.
4. Charitable Partners
Bouclème currently partners with two brilliant charities.
Trees For the Future: For every 300ml bottle or travel kit sold, Trees for the Future plants a tree in an impoverished country. The charity helps farmers and individuals by planting fast-growing trees, providing feed for livestock, and helping those in poverty to make an income. Since launching in 2015, Bouclème has helped plant over 16,000 trees - that’s pretty amazing!
Malaika: For every Revive 5 Hair Oil sold, Bouclème donates 20p to Malaika, a non-profit that improves access to education, water and healthcare in the village of Kalebuka in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
5. No Animal Testing
Bouclème products are cruelty-free and only tested on real-life curls. During product testing, Bouclème uses a panel of curly testers with different hair types. This enables the brand to establish how each product performs on a range of curls with various needs.
