Bouclème x Preen | 3 ways to style your chic new scarf

A head scarf is the perfect way to add a pop of colour to your look whatever the season while effortlessly keeping hair off your face. We love this stylish accessory and founder Michele wanted to create one that was sustainable and chic.

Designing the perfect scarf

We’re a British brand with high production standards so Preen By Thornton Bregazzi felt like the ideal design partner. Founded in 1996 by Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi, Preen was originally a small boutique in Notting Hill. More than two decades on Preen’s fanbase includes style leaders such as Alexa Chung, Beyoncé, Rihanna, Michelle Obama and the Princess of Wales.

Michele’s brief was for a scaled up scarf for curls. It was also for “something super cool for Christmas that wasn’t just the usual seasonal gift set.” Michele says, “Working with Preen meant we have produced something that everyone can use. Why just limit it to curls when you can wrap gifts in the scarf or even make it a gorgeous neck tie.”

The design incorporates Preen’s signature Electric Bloom print and a colourway inspired by our colourful packaging. Justin says, “Thea and I felt it was a great opportunity to work with a brand that focuses on natural haircare solutions, and as Thea has curly hair, it’s the perfect partnership. The scarf has been innovatively crafted from recycled plastic into something luxurious.”

Keeping your look fresh

We’re not going to lie, one of the great things about a scarf is it can easily disguise less than fresh curls if you’re in a rush! But we suggest that you refresh your curls for the best finish.

Styling your scarf

Shanae walks us through three of our favourite looks below.

Take the longer ends of the scarf and fold it in half three times to make a thick band. Tip your head forward so you can wrap the band around the base of your skull and flip your hair back while bringing the two ends around the sides of your head to tie at the top. Create a second knot, tucking the ends into the band.

Fold the scarf diagonally in half. Fold inwards from the top points down to the base. Keep folding until you have a nice long, smooth length of scarf. This time, wrap from the front to the back, tying at the nape of the neck. Let the ends of the scarf peek out from beneath your hair.

As for Look 2, fold the scarf diagonally, but this time, fold the pointed ends to the base, and then fold in half again, so that the band is around double the width it was for Look 2. Now tie your hair up in a high ponytail. Wrapping the band around the back of your head, bring the ends to the front and tie in a double knot near the hairline. Tuck the ends of the scarf under the band.

We’re all for you getting creative – why not tie your scarf around your handbag strap or pull through the belt loops on your jeans? Tag and share your looks with us on Insta, we’d love to see your unique style!
